The clydesdales of flanders moss

when conditions are interesting...

I will occasionally be posting short films to my photography website, like this one made during the recent cold snap of winter weather we experienced here in Scotland.

ON GOING WORK...

I've been photographing The Clydesdale horses at Flanders Moss for many years now and in 2017 exhibited some of the work.  I've slowly but surely been getting to know them, but crucially gain a little trust. They are huge and powerful horses and working closely beside them and with a camera demands some understanding of how they may react.

On a cold November morning...

The early light was good and I arrived in time to film the sun breaking through the clouds. The two horses were in reasonable spirits but had been waiting months for a third mare to join them.

During the previous winter there had been three Clydesdales in the field, but the third was now being kept separately as she had been shown at agricultural fairs over the summer. The geese flew overhead and the warmth of the sun heated their coats.
